Artist Statement
I am interested in the process of getting to the final product and when I create my work I try to retain a degree of abstraction. The work I make begins with mass chaos of vibrant colors before diluting them with a white wash. I want my work to pull out the bright colors that most people would prefer to conceal, but also to leave the viewer with an eye appealing piece. I enjoy exploring the tricks of the eye when interpreting an optical illusion. These images work on a micro and macro level, requiring the viewer to move up close to consider the surface and also move away to see how the eye blends everything together. The infinitely interpretive power of art is what interests me and causes me to make more work. I am interested in those interpretations, and I embrace the dialogue that occurs when people view my images.
